Five have scoreless outings vs. Reds

Reds at the plate: Jerry Gil broke a scoreless tie with a three-run home run to right field in the fifth inning off Glen Perkins. Jay Bruce was 1-for-2 with a second-inning single. Jolbert Cabrera hit a two-run double to left-center field in the eighth.

Twins at the plate: Minnesota scored its only run in the sixth, aided by three Cincinnati errors while David Weathers was on the mound. All five Minnesota hits were singles.

Reds on the mound: Matt Belisle started and pitched two scoreless innings with three hits allowed. Belisle started the second with back-to-back singles but got out of the jam with an inning-ending double play. Another rotation candidate, Josh Fogg, worked two innings in relief with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. Kent Mercker pitched an inning, surrendering one hit. New closer Francisco Cordero pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Twins on the mound: Starter Scott Baker pitched two scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out one without a walk. Reliever Matt Guerrier had one perfect inning. Perkins worked one inning and allowed three earned runs and four hits with one strikeout. Casey Daigle pitched one scoreless inning with one hit allowed and a strikeout.

Grapefruit League records: Reds 1-1, Twins 0-1.
