Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minn. – For the third year in a row, the Minnesota Twins and concessions and retail partner, Delaware North Sportservice, have focused on bringing unique and popular Minnesota-based foods to Target Field®. The Twins and Sportservice have expanded concessions and retail at Target Field this season by adding local craft beers and specialty foods from across Twins Territory.
“Every year, Sportservice challenges the status quo and builds upon its previous successes in retail and concessions,” says Pete Spike, general manager for Sportservice at Target Field. “This year, we are confident that our newest menu items will continue to raise the bar in both the suites and general concessions.”
Since opening in 2010, the Twins’ organization has made food and beverage offerings a top priority to enhance fans’ overall ballpark experience.
“The Twins are thrilled with the continued evolution of the Target Field menu and merchandise offerings,” said team president Dave St. Peter. “The high quality products, local favorites and unparalleled selection have played a significant role in making the Target Field fan experience so special.”
In addition to existing offerings from partners like Pepsi, Schweigert™, Klement’s, Barrel O’ Fun, Caribou Coffee, Angie’s Kettle Corn, Fisher Nuts, and Palermo’s, fans can look forward to the exciting new additions below for the 2012 season.
New Food Items for 2012
Straight from Minnesota’s Iron Range, Valentini’s Supper Club (with current locations in Chisholm and Duluth) is offering its famous meatballs. Sportservice will serve Valentini’s Mega Meatball - a cheese-stuffed meatball served with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese.
A top-selling item at the State Fair, deep fried pickle chips from The Preferred Pickle will be served with ranch dressing on the side.
The Twins have added a baked potato bar featuring four delicious varieties of jumbo potatoes. One variation will feature nacho cheese, salsa and sour cream. The second variety will be a cheddar and broccoli baked potato. There will also be a classic baked potato with bacon, sour cream and chives. The bar will also feature a jumbo yam topped with maple butter and crushed pecans.
A staple of some west coast ballparks, garlic fries will make their debut at Target Field. These tasty skin-on fries, seasoned with a garlic and parmesan marinade, are sure to be a fan favorite.
New from The Food Network brand are the Bacon Sloppy Joe and Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese. The Bacon Sloppy Joe includes ground beef and slab bacon chunks. It’s slow-cooked with tomatoes and served with rolls, shredded pepper jack cheese and fried onions. Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese is tossed with spicy buffalo chicken, topped with blue cheese breadcrumbs and baked until crispy.
SuperMom’s Mini Donuts, found throughout SuperAmerica convenience stores, will be baked fresh. SuperMom’s Mini Donuts offers three varieties - powdered sugar, cinnamon, and cinnamon and sugar.
Leeann Chin is serving up Minnesota’s favorite stir fry. Guests can enjoy their choice of a chicken stir fry in a red chile sauce or vegetarian stir fry in a teriyaki sauce.
Guests with a sweet tooth can enjoy Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll from Pearson’s Candy. The creamy nougat center is surrounded by golden caramel and covered with fresh salted Virginia peanuts to create a unique salty yet sweet flavor combination. It’s truly a one of a kind non-chocolate candy bar.
The Twins have also formed a new partnership with B. Smith Olive Oil, a locally-produced, minority-owned business. The olive oil will be used for cooking throughout the premium seating areas at Target Field.
Many Favorites are Back
Along with introducing new items, Sportservice and the Twins are bringing back many of last year’s favorites. Murray’s Steak Sandwich - Inspired by the signature sandwich from the iconic downtown Minneapolis steakhouse, will be served at multiple Mill City Grill concession locations throughout the ballpark.
Tony O's Cuban Sandwich - A concept developed by Tony Oliva, the Twins and Sportservice will be served at concessions carts at Target Field.
Turkey to Go – A product of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association, Turkey to Go has expanded from a single cart in 2011 to a second location in 2012 and is served with another local favorite – Ken Davis BBQ Sauce. Ken Davis opened a restaurant in Minneapolis in the late 1960s and developed his signature BBQ sauce in 1972.
Walk A Taco – Owned by the Silva family, El Burrito Mercado in St. Paul supplies the cones, and Sportservice prepares and serves the Walk A Taco at Target Field’s Señor Smoke’s locations.
Minneapple Pie –Sportservice serves the Minneapple Pie – apples inside a deep-fried, flaky crust and topped with cinnamon and sugar – in the State Fair Classics stand. For an additional cost, this tasty treat can be served with ice cream.
The State Fair also served as inspiration for some of Sportservice's inaugural concession stand offerings, including the Minnesota Walleye, J.D. Hoyt’s Cajun Pork Chop on a Stick, and Cheese Curds. All are returning in 2012.
The Twins and Sportservice are also proud to announce a partnership with locally-based 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey. The 2 Gingers Pubs, formerly known as the Twins Pubs, will feature the Big Ginger; a signature cocktail made of 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, ginger ale, with lemon and lime garnish.
While Anheuser-Busch remains the official beer partner of the Minnesota Twins, the Twins have expanded their selection of local craft beers. Brews from Surly, Fulton, Summit, Finnegans, and Schell’s will be available at various locations throughout Target Field.
In 573, the Twins have added beers from Fulton, Lift Bridge, Granite City and Cold Springs Brewery.
