Revere starts in right field on Saturday

BALTIMORE -- The Twins already made one change to their Opening Day lineup in just the second game of the year, as Ben Revere started in right field in place of Ryan Doumit on Saturday against the Orioles.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he decided to start Revere in right because Doumit is slated to catch on Sunday. He added that it wasn't because the Orioles are starting a right-hander in Tommy Hunter, as Doumit is a switch-hitter.

"Doumit hits left-handers too, so I just wanted to play Ben," Gardenhire said. "Doumit is also gonna catch tomorrow. [Tommy Hunter] kind of has some soft stuff. He has a good fastball, but he can flip some curveballs and changeups. And Ben has done pretty well against that. So it gives [Doumit] a chance to breathe, and gives another guy a chance to get in."

Gardenhire, however, wouldn't confirm that Joe Mauer will start at first base on Sunday with Doumit getting the start behind the plate.
