MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins will recall outfielder Ben Revere from Triple-A Rochester in time for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, as Josh Willingham will be placed on paternity leave to attend the birth of his third child with his wife, Ginger.
Revere was optioned to Triple-A on April 14, when the club claimed outfielder Clete Thomas off waivers from the Tigers. Revere hit .222 in six games with Rochester while seeing time at all three outfield positions.
"He's been playing pretty decent down there," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "I've been watching him. He's a spark-plug type of guy, so we'll bring him up and stick him out there. We know what Ben can do. He was part of the numbers crunch, but now we can get him up here by necessity and maybe add some speed to the lineup for a day or two."
Willingham could be back in time for Friday's game against the Royals, but there's still a chance he won't make his return until Saturday. He can be on paternity leave for a maximum of three days.
