Opposing warnings, Gardenhire ejected

Gardenhire ejected in division tilt

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was ejected in the third inning of Monday night's game against the Tigers by home-plate umpire James Hoye.

The ejection came during Joe Mauer's at-bat in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Tigers starter Armando Galarraga threw two straight pitches at the legs of Mauer. And on the second pitch that nearly struck Mauer, Hoye warned both benches.

Gardenhire came out of the dugout after the warnings were issued and got into a heated exchange with Hoye. The argument earned Gardenhire his third ejection of the season and the 39th of his career.

Tensions between the two clubs rose earlier in the game. Tigers third baseman Carlos Guillen stared down Twins starter Glen Perkins after a pitch got away from the left-hander and nearly struck Guillen in the head.
