MINNEAPOLIS -- According to manager Ron Gardenhire, Alexi Casilla will return to the Twins on Wednesday, barring any unforeseen developments.
Casilla has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 29 with a torn ligament in his right thumb.
The Twins' second baseman began a two-game rehabilitation assignment on Monday with Class A Beloit. Playing against Cedar Rapids, Casilla went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two walks.
"He had a good night, played well on defense," Gardenhire said. "His hand is fine. He's going to play tonight, and then we plan on him being here tomorrow to go with us to Anaheim if everything goes well tonight."
The Twins begin a 14-game road trip on Thursday against the Angels.
Casilla was hitting .313 with four home runs and 39 RBIs in 243 at-bats with the Twins prior to being shelved.
