Span has been on the DL -- retroactive to Aug. 28 -- with a sprained sternoclavicular joint in his right shoulder. Span took batting practice with his teammates on Saturday for the first time since going on the DL.
"Denard's doing fine," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's eligible to come off [Wednesday]. So it looks like everything's going good. He's doing his swinging. No one's told me anything different."
Span originally sustained the injury on Aug. 12 while diving for a ball in center field. He missed nine straight games in August, but was bothered by the shoulder once he returned.
The 28-year-old is hitting .286 with a career-high 32 doubles in 108 games this season.
"He'll possibly be in the lineup," Gardenhire said. "Depends on how he feels. He's gotta tell me he's OK."
