Tsuyoshi Nishioka given his unconditional release

The Minnesota Twins, at the request of Tsuyoshi Nishioka, have given him his unconditional release today.  Nishioka, who was under a contract for the 2013 season, will relieve the Twins of their remaining financial commitment on the contract, which includes $3,000,000 for next season and a $250,000 buyout.

Nishioka, who spent the last two seasons in the Twins organization, released the following statement:

“I would like to thank the Twins organization for helping me fulfill my dream of playing in Major League Baseball. I take full responsibility for my performance which was below my own expectations. At this time, I have made the decision that it is time to part ways. I have no regrets and know that only through struggle can a person grow stronger. I appreciate all the support the team and the fans in Minnesota and Rochester have shown me. Arigatou gozaimasu.”

The Japanese gold glover spent the majority of the 2012 season at Triple-A Rochester after signing a three-year contract with the Twins prior to the 2011 season. This transaction was requested by Tsuyoshi Nishioka and supported by the Minnesota Twins.
