MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Twins today announced plans for the eighth annual Holiday Week of Giving, when the organization will focus on giving back to the community during the holiday season. This year’s week of activities runs from Monday, December 17 through Friday, December 21.
Twins pitcher Glen Perkins, former players Tony Oliva and Rod Carew will join the Twins front office staff in events benefiting a variety of community causes.
“In these difficult times, and especially during the holiday season, what we do in the community has never been more important,” said Bryan Donaldson, Twins Senior Director of Community Relations. “Throughout the past five years, the Week of Giving has connected volunteers from the Twins staff with many worthwhile organizations and thousands of families.”
A brief description of each event is listed below:
Monday, Dec. 17 / 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Rebuilding Together – Twins staff and Rebuilding Together Twin Cities will renovate a home in Minneapolis that will be used as a transition home for veterans.
Tuesday, Dec. 18 / 4:15 - 7 p.m.
People Serving People Holiday Party – Twins staff will hold their annual holiday party for families staying at the shelter.
Wednesday, Dec 19 / 8:45 - 10:45 a.m.
Windom Dual Immersion School – Twins staff will visit the Windom Dual Immersion School in South Minneapolis to assist with gym class and reading activities.
Thursday, Dec. 20 / 4 - 6 p.m.
Pizza Party at CommonBond Family Housing Center – Twins staff will visit the CommonBond Family Housing Center in Edina to decorate cookies, play games, and eat pizza with residents of all ages.
Friday, Dec. 21 / 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Cookie Decorating at Children’s Hospital – Twins pitcher Glen Perkins, Twins staff, and Mascot T.C. will visit the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis to decorate cookies and make room visits.
