MINNEAPOLIS -- Third-base prospect Miguel Sano made his TwinsFest debut on Friday, and said he's excited for the upcoming season. Sano, 19, hit .258/.373/.521 with 28 homers and 100 RBIs in 129 games with Class A Beloit last season. MLB.com's Prospect Watch ranks him as the club's No. 1 prospect and No. 20 in baseball. He said it was difficult to adjust to the weather in the Midwest League last season, but he's looking forward to playing in Florida for Class A Advanced Fort Myers.
"It was pretty hard at first because I wasn't used to the cold coming from the Dominican," Sano said through a translator. "But once I adjusted to the cold, I was able to get over the elements and not think about it anymore." He's been working on his defense after making 42 errors at third base last season, and he thinks his experience playing in the Dominican Winter League will help him. Sano hit .265 with four homers and three doubles in 20 games with Estrellas de Oriente. "I was expecting the competition to be a little tougher," said Sano, who grew an inch and is now 6-foot-4. "But I was just taking it pitch by pitch and game by game and trying to improve."
