Injured outfielders could return to action this weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- General manager Terry Ryan said injured outfielders Chris Parmelee, Darin Mastroianni and Oswaldo Arcia could all return to action this weekend.

Parmelee, who was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup because of right groin tightness, could return to action by Sunday against the Pirates at Hammond Stadium.

"He's OK now," Ryan said. "We'll give him another day, but he's fine."

Mastroianni, who has been out since Feb. 28 with tightness in his left hamstring, has been cleared by team doctors and is expected to play on Saturday against the Pirates in Bradenton. Mastroianni who is competing for the center-field job with Aaron Hicks and Joe Benson, was faring well before his injury with a .364 average in five games.

"Mastroianni is ready to go," Ryan said. "I'm anxious to see Mastroianni back to see what he's capable of doing."

Arcia, who is ranked the club's No. 5 prospect by MLB.com, has yet to play in a Grapefruit League game because of a pulled intercostal muscle. He has been taking batting practice and could make his debut on Saturday or Sunday.

"Arcia is pretty close," Ryan said. "Arcia is hitting today, so he's taking the proper steps. I think he'll get in a game shortly."
