Plouffe's MRI on strained calf comes back clean

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Third baseman Trevor Plouffe had an MRI on his strained right calf, which came back favorable, Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Monday.

Plouffe, who missed the club's first three Grapefruit League games with the injury, re-injured himself while working out on Sunday. But he's expected to return by next week.

"He'll be out a few more days with a calf strain," Ryan said. "That's good news."

Plouffe said the injury is less serious than when he initially sustained the calf strain while working out before Spring Training.

"I'm not too worried about it," Plouffe said. "But we'll take some time with it. I'm sure I won't be in there this week at all."

Right fielder Chris Parmelee, meanwhile, is scheduled to return to the lineup on Wednesday for the first time since feeling some tightness in his right groin while running the bases in Jupiter, Fla., on March 4.

First baseman Justin Morneau also is expected return to the lineup on Wednesday after Tuesday's off-day, as he arrived back in Fort Myers on Monday after playing for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic.
