Gardenhire: Florimon's sitting not due to miscues

MINNEAPOLIS -- Shortstop Pedro Florimon was on the bench Saturday in favor of Eduardo Escobar a day after making his third error in eight games this season.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, though, said it was just a planned off-day for Florimon, as it gave Escobar just his third start of the year.

"My plan was for Eskie to play today no matter what," Gardenhire said. "I wanted to get him back out there and get some swings."

But Gardenhire did say he had been surprised by Florimon's struggles defensively, as Florimon had an impressive Spring Training and was known for his defense during his time in the Minor Leagues.

"I wish I could figure out a way to help him," Gardenhire said. "We know how well he caught the ball [in Spring Training]. But I'm sure the cold weather has affected him. But he has to work his way through it."
