Wood begins rehab assignment; Sano raking

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-handed reliever Tim Wood, who is on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 24 with a right rotator cuff strain, began a rehab assignment with Class A Advanced Fort Myers on Tuesday.

"Wood threw an inning for the Miracle and will probably pitch tomorrow or the next day," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said.

Wood, who gave up a run on three hits in his one inning against Palm Beach, can be on a rehab assignment for a maximum of 30 days. He pitched in extended spring training before his assignment with Fort Myers.

Wood picked up the victory in the Miracle's 7-4 win that saw Fort Myers improve to 12-0 so far this season.

Third baseman Miguel Sano, ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect and as the Twins' No. 1 prospect, according to MLB.com, hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. Sano, 19, is off to a hot start this season, hitting .413 with four homers, four doubles and 12 RBIs in 12 games.
