Mauer's bat continues to heat up in May

BOSTON -- It's been a streaky year at the plate for Joe Mauer so far this season.

Mauer started off on fire, but then fell into a career-worst 0-for-20 slump before snapping it with a single against the Tigers on April 30. Mauer also went 64 plate appearances without an extra-base hit starting on April 15 until he finally doubled against the Indians on Sunday.

But Mauer is locked in yet again, as he doubled in four straight games -- with six doubles over that span -- before seeing that streak come to an end in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Red Sox. He still went 1-for-4 with a run scored to extend his hit streak to eight games and is hitting .364 over that span.

"I feel good," Mauer said. "In the three games here, I've seen some good pitches and I'm just tracking the ball better. I like hitting here."
