NEW YORK -- Outfielder Delmon Young will not return to the team until Friday at the earliest, manager Ron Gardenhire said on Monday.
Young was put on the Family Medical Emergency List on Friday so he could travel to California to be with his ailing mother. Per the rules of the list, which allows players to attend to family matters, the player must remain on it for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven.
The Twins want Young to take all the time he needs, and so he will miss all three of the club's games in Chicago this week. Following their series in Chicago, the Twins will head back to Minnesota, where they'll host the Brewers on Friday for the start of a three-game series, and it's likely that Young will rejoin them at that time.
