Twins select contract of right-handed pitcher Samuel Deduno


Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Samuel Deduno from Triple-A Rochester. Deduno made three starts for the Red Wings, posting a 2.70 ERA (16.2 IP, 5 ER) with 17 strikeouts and 10 walks. Additionally, the 29-year-old was a member of Team Dominican Republic as part of the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He went 2-0, 0.69 ERA (13.0 IP, 1 ER) with 17 strikeouts in three starts, including earning the win in the championship game against Team Puerto Rico. 

To make room for Deduno on the 40-man roster, the Twins transferred right-handed pitcher Tim Wood to the 60-day disabled list. 

Deduno will start tonight for the Twins in Detroit and wear uniform number 21.
