Twins Select Kohl Stewart with the Fourth Pick in the 2013 Draft


Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have selected Kohl Stewart from St. Pius X (Houston) High School with the fourth overall selection in the first round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and right-handed pitcher Ryan Eades with the 43rd overall selection in the second round.

The 18-year-old, Stewart, was the top ranked high school pitching prospect in the country according to Baseball America. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound First-Team Rawlings All-American made eight starts for St. Pius X, posting a record of 5-1 with a 0.18 ERA in 40.0 innings pitched with 59 strikeouts and 16 walks. He was named Texas All-Region First-Team in 2013. In 2012, as a junior, the right-hander went 8-0 with 72 strikeouts in 54.0 innings pitched, helping guide St. Pius to the TAPPS 5A Title.

With their second selection on day one, the Twins selected right-handed pitcher Ryan Eades out of Louisiana State University with the 43rd overall selection. Eades went 8-1 with a 2.81 ERA (96.0 IP, 30 ER) with 30 walks and 77 strikeouts in 16 starts for Tigers this season. The 6-for-3, 195-pounder went 17-5 with a 3.59 ERA (233.0 IP, 93 ER), 76 walks and 171 strikeouts in 51 career appearances (39 starts) over three seasons.

The Slidell, Louisiana native was originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 19th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Eades was recommended by Twins scout Greg Runser.
