Twins call up Colabello for doubleheader

WASHINGTON -- Chris Colabello was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday to be the Twins' 26th man on their roster for their doubleheader against the Nationals.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement allows for a team to call up a player without a corresponding roster move for doubleheaders, as long as the game is scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. The Nationals and Twins were rained out on Friday, so both teams were allowed a 26th man.

It marked the third time this season that Colabello was recalled from Rochester, but his stay was a short one. He was optioned back to Rochester after the Twins lost both games in the doubleheader. He went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter.

He's been Rochester's best hitter this year, batting .353 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs in 50 games. He's 2-for-15 in six games with the Twins this year.

He was also named the organization's Minor League Player of the Month for May on Sunday, after hitting .425 with six homers and 20 RBIs in 20 games. Left-hander Aaron Thompson was named Minor League Player of the Month after posting a 1.26 ERA over 11 appearances with Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester.
