Plouffe activated from disabled list

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins activated Trevor Plouffe from the 15-day disabled list after their 4-0 loss to the Tigers on Friday night. To make room for Plouffe on the active roster, the Twins optioned catcher Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester.

Plouffe, who was on the DL retroactive to May 28 with a strained left calf, played in his fourth rehab game with Triple-A Rochester on Friday night. He went 2-for-5 to finish his rehab assignment 5-for-15 with a homer.

Plouffe hasn't played with the Twins since May 21, when he suffered a concussion after being kneed in the head by Braves second baseman Dan Uggla while trying to break up a double play. He was subsequently placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list and was activated on May 29 but suffered a strained left calf while warming up before the game.

Plouffe will take over regular duties at third base, as Jamey Carroll and Eduardo Escobar saw time there in his absence.

Herrmann played in seven games, hitting .462 (6-for-13) with one homer and a double in just his second career stint in the big leagues.
