Twins outright lefty Hernandez to Triple-A

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins outrighted left-hander Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester, the club announced Tuesday.

Hernandez became the latest Twins player to be outrighted off the 40-man roster early this offseason, joining infielder Doug Bernier, outfielders Wilkin Ramirez and Clete Thomas and right-handers Josh Roenicke, Cole De Vries and Shairon Martis.

Hernandez, 24, posted a 6.83 ERA in 14 appearances (12 starts) in 2013. The southpaw struck out 29, walked 23 and gave up 10 homers in 56 2/3 innings. He fared better in the Minors, as he combined to post a 3.66 ERA in 12 appearances, including 10 starts.

Hernandez, a Barquisimeto, Venezuela native, was originally acquired by the Twins in the trade that sent left-hander Francisco Liriano to the White Sox on July 28, 2012.

With the roster move, the Twins now have 35 players on their 40-man roster, which doesn't include right-hander Samuel Deduno, who has yet to be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. Deduno underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in September.
