Prospect Rosario receives 50-game suspension

|

Twins prospect Eddie Rosario has been handed a 50-game suspension without pay for a second violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Rosario, the Twins' No. 5-ranked prospect according to MLB.com, just completed his first full professional season in 2013. The 22-year-old second baseman hit .302 with 10 home runs, 32 doubles and 73 RBIs over 122 combined games between Class A Advanced Fort Myers and Double-A New Britain.

A fourth-round pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Rosario was originally drafted as an outfielder. He has made strides in his transition to second base, though he remains a work in progress as a middle infielder.

In three professional seasons overall, Rosario is hitting .307 with 49 homers and 233 RBIs.
