Catcher Kurt Suzuki, who joined the Twins as a free agent in December, said he does not expect the new rule covering collisions at the plate to affect his approach.

"My main focus is always to keep myself out of danger and keep myself safe," Suzuki said. "I'm not the biggest guy, so I'm not going to just plop myself in front of home plate. So I've always tried to have a really good technique of being safe, but still being able to make the play."

He is not doing anything differently in Spring Training to prepare for the new rule.

"Not me," he said. "I'm never a guy that's going to stand in front of the plate. I'm always going to be around the plate, but I always leave a lane for a runner to slide, just because I don't want to get run over. My deal has always been to give a lane. So I won't change anything."

Whether the new rule leads to more or fewer injuries remains to be seen, he said.

"There's pros and cons to everything," he said. "So I think it's going to be tough and it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out, that's for sure."
