May also retired third baseman Mike Hessman all four times he came to the plate, keeping the veteran Minor Leaguer at 399 career home runs for at least one more day.
Before Monday, May had thrown eight innings twice in his career. The most recent came when he was pitching in Double-A in 2012, and both were before he was a member of Minnesota's organization. May was a part of the package the Phillies dealt to the Twins in exchange for Ben Revere in December 2012.
In eight starts this season, May has a 3.35 ERA. His 47 strikeouts are the second most among Twins Minor Leaguers, trailing only Alex Meyer, his rotation mate in Rochester. Meyer, Minnesota's No. 3 prospect and No. 25 overall in baseball, has 49 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings.
