Twins Legends to throw 2014 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby first pitches


Twins legend Rod Carew will throw the ceremonial first pitch of the 85th Midsummer Classic on Tuesday, July 15th, Major League Baseball announced today. Additionally, St. Paul natives Jack Morris, Paul Molitor and Dave Winfield will be joined by Twins first baseman and six-time MLB All-Star Joe Mauer to throw the first pitches prior to the Gillette Home Run Derby on Monday, July 14th. Eight-time MLB All-Star Tony Oliva threw out the first pitch of the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.

Carew, a Hall of Famer and 18-time MLB All-Star, will be accompanied to the mound by three members of local Little League organizations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Little League. They include Bella Hutson from CAA Chanhassen Little League, and Nick Jorgenson and Sydney Kehr from Coon Rapids National Little League. Kiana Knolland, the 2013-2014 National Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will deliver the ceremonial first pitch ball to the mound.

St. Paul natives Mauer, Molitor, Winfield and Morris will be throwing to four baseball and softball members of the Minnesota Twins RBI program - James Newton, Michelle Sevilla-Salinas, Opemipo Aghenu and Michael Caron
