Twins designate Guerrier, call up reliever Pressly

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins designated reliever Matt Guerrier for assignment after Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Indians, and they will recall reliever Ryan Pressly from Triple-A Rochester to take his place on the roster.

Guerrier, who turns 36 on Aug. 2, posted a 3.86 ERA with 12 strikeouts and 10 walks in 28 innings this year. His last appearance came Tuesday, and it was a rough one, as he gave up four runs on four hits and two walks in one inning.

Guerrier rejoined the club on a Minor League deal this year after spending seven seasons with the Twins from 2004-11. The right-hander was coming off surgery to fix the flexor mass in his right elbow, and he began the year at Rochester before having his contract purchased on May 7.

In his eight seasons in Minnesota, Guerrier had a 3.40 ERA with 322 strikeouts and 157 walks in 500 innings.

"It's a very tough moment here," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Matty Guerrier means a lot to us in this organization and this clubhouse. He's a first-class guy. So it's a real tough moment here."

Pressly, meanwhile, has been solid at Triple-A with a 2.98 ERA and 63 strikeouts against 21 walks in 60 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old spent all of last season with the Twins as a Rule 5 Draft pick, and he fared well as a rookie with a 3.87 ERA in 76 2/3 innings.
