Pino expected to start in weekend twin bill

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins have yet to make an official announcement, but right-hander Yohan Pino is expected to start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers.

Both the Twins and Tigers get to call up a 26th player for the twin bill, and Pino is expected to get the call from Triple-A Rochester.

Pino was optioned there on Friday and fared well in his start with the Red Wings on Monday, giving up just two runs on three hits over seven-plus innings to improve to 10-2 with a 2.47 ERA at Triple-A. Pino, 30, is 1-5 with a 5.37 ERA in 10 starts with the Twins this season.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire wouldn't confirm it will be Pino, but strongly hinted at it on Wednesday, as Pino would be pitching on regular rest.

"I'm not trying to hide too much here," Gardenhire said. "Who's in line? Run with it."

Gardenhire also said that right-hander Trevor May will start Game 2 against the Tigers.
