MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Yohan Pino will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire announced Thursday.
The move was expected, as Pino will be pitching on regular rest after starting with the Red Wings on Monday, but it wasn't official until Thursday. Pino will be the club's designated 26th man on the roster, as both clubs get to carry an extra player for the twin bill.
"He'll start the first game and [Trevor] May will start the second game," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Pino, 30, is coming off a strong start with Rochester. The right-hander gave up just two runs on three hits over seven-plus innings to improve to 10-2 with a 2.47 ERA at Triple-A.
Pino last started with the Twins on Aug. 12, when he struggled, allowing seven runs over 4 1/3 innings to fall to 1-5 with a 5.37 ERA in 10 starts.
